I am a busy mother to 4 beautiful girls and no stranger to multi-tasking ;with a career in Architecture and an ongoing home renovation project, I have now added ‘Artist’ to the mix.
Whilst my early study of art and design lead me to a career in Architecture, it was joining the Tadworth Art Group that re-invoked my artistic abilities and passion for painting. My artwork, predominantly using oil-on-canvas, takes me beyond everyday routine and into a world of boundless creativity to further develop my artistic eye. I am strongly influenced by nature and often focuses on vast land and seascapes, whilst my architectural precision and contemporary imagination truly distinguish and define my work.
Whether depicting a calm waterfront, cascade of buildings or bare-footed children running along a pier, I playfully exaggerate my subjects with the use of vibrant colours and accumulation of layers creating textured surfaces and a poly-dimensional reality that adds both depth and light to my work instantly setting my work apart.
I began drawing and painting as a child and enjoyed art lessons at school in Kent.
After studying art in Maidstone, Kent, and then in Aberystwyth, Wales, I did a brief stint as a medical photographer and illustrator in a London teaching hospital before drifting into a career in graphic design.
I was fortunate to become a member of TAG two years ago and am proud to paint and exhibit with some exceptionally accomplished artists. My recent paintings are inspired by a combination of my early interests and a wide variety styles, ranging from the Impressionists, and the loose and vibrant style of some of my contemporaries.
I particularly like to paint urban scenes and landscapes, and also pet portraits. If you would like to commission me, please contact me on 07740471665 or [email protected] My personal website is joenorrispaintspictures.co.uk
Painting had been an occasional distraction from work until moving house in 2016. More space, beautiful countryside and wanting a better work-life balance with two young children spurred me on to try to make the career change from analyst to artist.
I started in acrylics, painting a range of subjects from landscapes and botanical to figures and cars. I’ve recently found a love of incorporating inclement weather into my paintings and have begun to paint oils, allowing me greater scope to create the atmospheric paintings I strive for.
